best quote for an 18 year old to get insurance on a mk1 golf

My friends son has held a driving license for a year but hasn't bought a car due to high insurance costs. Is there people on here of a similar age  that don't pay through the roof to insure their golfs?

I'm a few years older. But the cheapest I could find was with tesco. Half the price I was getting quoted for classic insurance

How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking.

Dont think you are going to find anything cheap, just have to shop around, compare the market etc and do things that make a difference, for instance putting me down as a named driver reduced my 17 year old daughters premium by a little bit.

Onlt way to get the cheapest quote is to phone as many insurers as you can.

What is good for one person doesnt mean its good for everyone.

Any accidents claims or convictions? Occupation?

With 'starting fresh' there really isn't much to go on for 17 year old drivers. They have no driving experience and have held their licence for a very short time, so even no accidents/claims/convictions doesn't mean they're a safe driver. So they're lumped into a broad group with similar age/experience people- which statistically, are bad drivers. They do differentiate for sex (boys are more expensive than girls), occupation, part time occupation, location (postcode), where the vehicle is kept (garage/driveway/street) and of course insurance group of car.

Occupation = student will push up the premium.

Parking on the street will too.

Another thing he could do is put a driver with a good driving history, and female, on the policy as a named driver. That often lowers it.

And lastly, a full licence holder is more risk than a provisional licence holder, which you might not expect, but learners will be accompanied by someone (hopefully sensible!) with at least 3 years experience, while the full licence holder will be able to go out on his own etc.

Was the Corsa 1.2 a 16V or 8V? the 16V is insurance group 7 and the 8V is insurance group 5. You need to look at worse cars than that, for really cheap insurance.

Too right im been forced to try and sell my seat ibiza gti cupra because they want 5000pounds a year to insure it! It frustrates me because I'm actually a careful driver and the penalize me because of the stupid kids who drive their saxos and starletts around fully moddified and crash because they want to prove fheir engines bigger than everyone else's where theres me a genuine enthusiast who just wants a nice car because I dnt want to be stuck in a cincequento! It's just a massive steriotype dnt get me wrong I understand the insurance companies basic ideas that young drivers are less experianced but they seem to assume they are going to drive like a lunatic and crash which is not fair… But itl get better soon hopefully :)
