If you become a full member on here then you can get up to 15% off with companies like Adrian Flux and a couple of others, see here: The Mk1 Golf Owners Club
First time insurance is a nightmare to start with but I hope this helps a little!?

Insurance for young drivers especially blokes is a complete nightmare and a disgrace IMO. Having said there are a few ways to bring the cost down.
1) Join a club like this one and some companies will give you a discount as said above.
2) I don't know if this is still correct but when I started driving I was a named driver on a relatives policy. This brought the price down dramatically.
3) Have a limited mileage policy if you're not going to do many miles a year.
4) Garage it if you can and have an alarm on it.
5) Consider doing a pass plus and or an advanced driving course of some kind. There's loads out there that are recognised which will give another insurance discount.
Hope this helps.

You wont benefit from classic car insurance really, im 23 and the only classic car insurance quote i could get was from footman james and they wanted 900!! i rang up tesco and i think im paying just shy of £500.
Good luck with the search

Hi,jabethell said
Hi, im new to this site and ive noticed you guys are good at replies unlike the caddy forums… but anyway i have a mk1 caddy pickup and my driving test is at the end of the month… i know its not a golf but its close enough  I have looked about and i found aviva is the cheapest with a quote of £1500 . Yes its cheap for a first driver but as a student its still a push. Please share you ideas Thanks a bunch!
Feel free to give us a try if you like. If you wanted to PM me your details I'd be more than happy to get one of my quotes team to give you a call back.
Regards,
Dan.
