1.8t insurance
As anyone actually insured their 1.8t 20v conversion legally….if so who with and what sort of cost
I know most of you might think im mad insuring it properly but if your in a bad accident ( hopefully not ) your insurance would be void
Ive spoken to a few mk1 20vt owners and none have them have declared it….
If you get a tug by the old bill how do you convince them that the turbo/intercooler/dump valve ect were standard on all mk1 golfs and dont actually work they are just for show…… it aint going to happen
Anyway if you know any info on this please let me know …………… cheers

Why would people think your mad for insuring in proper??
Best thing to do is ring specialist insurers and see if you can get quotes for 'when' the work is done.

If you dont insure it properly then you might as well not insure it at all! It all amounts to the same thing. I insure mine properly and get quotes significantly less than 9k! Try the likes of HIC and adrian flux. They are specialists in this area and if its more than a 10th of what you have been quoted so far i would consider selling the car!

i have no intentions of not insuring it properly… hopefully ill have some joy on the phone tomorrow…
i just thought it was crazy how i can pay £142 a year for my cab gti and then basically throw a turbo on one and jump to £9000

Footman James insured mine all mods declared on 3000 mile limit for £185, age….closer to 40 than 30

HIC have insured mine for the last 5 years. All mods declared £370 fully comp. That's +90bhp on the Rallye engine (16vG60), 3000 miles, £6k agreed value, any cosmetic mods plus suspension brakes etc. 42 years young !!
It went up this year by 60 notes, I rang round Bentacre, Footman James and a couple of others and they could not beat it. Said something about having to pay for uninsured drivers, how ironic to this thread is that !!

So far my best quote is £350 f/comp with 3000 miles classic ins with Footman James
Thats a big difference to the £8853 compare the market gave me
Attention…
Just a note to anyone thinking of going 1.8t, Footman James said they can only insure upto 100 bhp more than the cars original power so it would pay to convert a 1.8gti rather than a small block engine………..
