Tin top boot lock

Post

Just wondering as I've read a couple of conflicting bits of info

Is it possible to re-ky a boot lock? I know for the door locks you remove the pins and replace so the key works. Is the boot the same?

If so how the hell do you get to the pins?

You can do it, I did mine recently.
Remove the lock from the boot by removing the 3 latch screws.
Then, If you push in the chrome button, it will expose a small roll pin at the other end of the lock. Knock the pin out and then the lock cylinder will pull out from the front.
After this you change the brass pins as per the door locks, then rebuild in reverse of disassembly.

Thanks mate, I'd got as far as the disassmbly with no issues but I didn't think I could see the pins. I'll have another look.

some call them wafers, there is a small spring that is on them

They are the little things sticking out covered in grease, but you can also see them at the bottom.

do you need the key in when taking out the barrel?

Nope. Just tap it a bit harder with a hammer and drift  ;)

If it worked ion a key I wouldn't need to remove it!

I have had it go both ways, some I have fixed I did have to have the key in, and some came out easily without.

Interesting.

I've run a light switch pick up on mine, used a Toyota boot pick for it.

I like the idea of it being in the catch!

Brilliant, so helpful just matched both door locks and the boot lock to the ignition barrel. Thanks a million for sharing!

My rear boot didn't have a boot light, so I made one that fit under the Parcel shelf.  It came with a rocker switch.

Pulled the Carpet off, drilled a couple of holes, replace the carpet…. I used it alot as it was a work car, and in the middle of the night, looking for parts it was a godsend.

Eventually Put one on each side of the Parcel shelf.

I found this guide from a scirocco site very useful: http://sciroccoregister.co.uk/carforum/viewtopic.php?t=55

It shows in detail how to remove the wafers of the door lock and the lock barrel from the boot lock
