How-To Airbox Mods for 1.5, 1.6 & 1.8 With Weber Carb

Here is a tut for people having problems fitting their air filter box on the weber carbs for 1.5, 1.6 & 1.8.
First we will start with the 1.5, now you have purchased your brand new replacement for the original solex 1B3, you should now have a 36TLP Weber.
Everything goes on as normal, look at my other tut for vac setup etc.
But now you have a problem the air box not sitting on the lip of carb, this is due to the replacement bracket that comes with the new weber.
Ok, the base of air filter box for the 1.5 will be metal and front plastic, it is the base we need to modifiy.
You will see the part of bracket which has one of the bolts and arrowed in pic.
All you need to do is get your airbox, look underneath and you will see the rim, there is a tiny lip that goes all way round, simply mark up the width of the part of bracket arrowed in pic on the airbox and slowly cut the lip to that size using a dremmel to cut.
What restricts the box is the bracket as it is wider than the rim of the air box.
Job done, your airbox now sits flush on carb.

Now for 1.6 & 1.8 blocks with a weber 32/34DTML carb
This does not happen much but does on occassion, the problem is their are 2 types of airbox for the big block carbs.
You will fit your weber and find that the airbox wobbles as it has nothing to fit to to secure it if you have earlier type airbox.
You have a 32/34dtml weber, it came with this washer, ONLY USE THIS FOR THE LATER HIGHER LIP AIRBOX

If you have the later airbox i.e. with the raised lip shown in pics then you are fine, simly carry on as per instructions with you weber
LATER AIRBOX for 1.6 & 1.8 (RAISED LIP)

EARLIER AIRBOX for 1.6 & 1.8 (FLAT LIP)

If you have earlier airbox, what you do is:-
remove airbox, now to the left the bracket which the airbox connects to is bolted down on a stud on the left of carb via an 8mm but, simply get 2 small washers to raise the bracket slighty higher and re-fit 8mm nut.
Now get yourself a washer with hole diameter enough for the hex headed bolt to go through the airbox at the top and enough to fit justover the rim of the hole of airbox, tighten down job done, your airbox will now no longer wobble freely, you no longer need the original washer in 1st pic if you have the older airbox, look at my pics to give you the idea.

Hope this is of some use to members
