My Corrado has the original VW alarm/immobiliser fitted and recently I had issues where I couldn't always lock/unlock the car or disable the immobiliser. This is the type of remote that I have;
I was on the verge of committing to a new alarm system when I found this;

I've tried it and so far it seems to have worked! I can lock/unlock every time and when the car is left open and the immobiliser kicks-in I can disable it with no problems. Happy days!!
And he's right what he says in the video, you only need to move the potentiometer a tad - too far and I found it wouldn't work at all.
Well worth a try if you have a 'period' alarm system fitted to your MK1 and it's not working right
