Is this not covered by your insurance?  Make it someone else's problem…

Vw heritage stock new screens and if you phone any local supplier they should be able to get you one.

I fitted a new screen last year as old one had a big stone chip, I removed my old one and cleaned a rusty patch which started to appear and cleaned up around the screen then when through my insurance as the excess was cheaper than buying a new one and the risk of me cracking a new screen putting it back in, cost of glue to stick the rear view mirror back to screen, the chap fitting it did all this while I watched. Much easier than me doing and they even took away my old screen so I did not have to get rid of it.

I recommend fitting a new rubber molding at the same time.
A new good one is not that cheap but it might pay in the long run.

Old ones dry out, become brittle and don't like being forced off and on again.

New one = piece of mind 👍🏼

Glad you found a supplier, when you remove the old screen check carefully around where the seal goes as common rust issues in the corners and it will be a good time to touch up any surface rust etc before it spreads.

That's good news, just make sure it's the right tint, when I was phoning around about mine they kept saying I should have a green tint along the top and clear glass!
I had the original screen in and it was a green tint but all over…
Autoglass wanted £260 to supply and fit a Mk1 golf windscreen… no wander insurance companies want to charge more of a premium if they use them to fit a screen.
