Will this fit?

Hello,

Just curious as to whether this distributor will fit my golf?

Mine is a 1985 Mk1 Golf Cabriolet 1.6 GL.

First photo is the dizzy that came off mine and the hall sensor is faulty.

Second photo is a second hand one i have brought, didnt see the part numbers properly when buying and its turned up with these different numbers which i believe are from a Mk2 GTI.

Can anyone tell me if the one i have brought will fit in straight as a replacement or can i take the hall sensor off of it and put in mine?

Part numbers differ slightly, mine ends in 206 and the new one 205AA and the top part number ends in 103 on mine and 133 on the new one.

Do they look the same inside?
Does you car run with yours fitted?
Any play in the shaft?

From what i can see they are identical inside and out.

No it doesnt run. My thread "Wont Start" on the help section has been all about my golf breaking down and then not starting and we have electrically tested everything and followed it back to the hall sensor not working so i purchased this to replace then found the part numbers are different on the dizzy.

Yes on both of them, both shafts move up and down the same distance as there is between the gap shown in picture below. Should this happen?

It might work, but then the advance curve might be different. VW Heritage sell replacement hall sender kits for dizzy's

Thanks, i have no idea what the advance curve is?

I did have a look at buying a new sensor but they arent cheap.

026905206 -> 026905205AF -> 026905237AX = MK1/2 1.6 carb distributor
026905205AA -> 026905205AK = MK2 1.8 kjet GTI

the kjet GTI dizzy is actually an upgrade as it has a more aggressive ignition curve. paired with a GTI dizzy should see soem gains

So does that mean that it would work with my cabby? Ive bit the bullet and purchased a reconditioned distributor exactly the same so wont be using it anymore but worth keeping??

Fit the 2nd hand one and either return the new one or keep it as a spare if the 2nd hand one also fails?
