I want to ask my mechanics to replace the injector seals and inserts. I've said I'll provide the parts but I'm confused by all the different injector inserts and seals available.
Can anyone tell me what I need for a belt n' braces job, please?
Thanks!

You need these type of seals
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK1-CABRIOLET-GTI-MK2-GTI-16V-FUEL-INJECTOR-SEALS-x-8-C933-/221233249484?fits=Model%3AGolf&hash=item3382877ccc:m:my6c1ua_1cHmQldQ-NP_UsA
Insert I would leave alone as they are a sort of plastic which has been getting hot and cold for many years and they are properly very brittle, I removed mine when the head was off the car and lots of bits fell of them so if the head is still attached to the block all those bits will fall into the engine.
I believe you seats should look like this but not 100% sure, this is the type fitted to my 1988 cabriolet

This is what I was left with when I removed mine and a couple of them I had to push from the bottom which is not possible with the head on the car?
New ones fitted.
Air shroud air feed at back of the head.

I'm less concerned about fitting the new seats but the guy at the garage muttered something about them being all brittle and likely to break so I thought it'd be worth giving him a set just in case, if only to keep him happy! The main thing is to replace the seals – I'm still trying to get to the bottom of the slight hesitation in acceleration.

The only reason I took mine out was because the head was being refurbished and cleaned and they had to come out and you see what was left of them
I would recommend leaving them alone and just replace the seal as you may be making more trouble/expense for your self.

Pictures/links for info, I would not buy 2nd ones if possible but the later type seem to hard to find at the minute but Ive not spent much time looking.
See what the garage says and go from there.
Early type with out air shroud.

Later type with air shroud, you can see the cap on the end and it's missing the other seal need.
