Pray tell which part of the car did you find it. Under the bonnet left or right side of engine front or back of it.
In the Cabin, in the dash, in the boot?
That makes it easier for some one inclined to look through the wiring diagrams to find it.

Had to go through 8 pages of schematics in the Bentley,
But I am pretty sure it is for the wiper system.

Sorry folks for only posting a partial inquiry.
The wire is in the engine bay and i discovered it while working on the distributor. It sits just in front and under the distributor between the engine block and the radiator fan metal cowl and the green/black wire can be seen to be coming from the wiring loom and not an after though.
any further help would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
Jim.

Sounds like oil temp then. Does your MFA work?
I have a sort of vague thought that there might be one that goes to the relay for the fan so it stays on when the ignition is switched off, but I'd have to check that.

dear whip,
I have recently replaced the radiator electric grateful if you could suggest where in the engine bay the spade connection might be hiding.
Many thanks,
Jim.

I think it depends on the engine model.
Mine is here near the oil filter…
