Golf GX Carb

Post

Can anyone help me? I've got a 1983 Golf GX that has I believe a pierburg carb and a automatic choke, as this is being ridiculously unreliable I was looking to replace the set up to a manual choke system, does anyone know what carb I would need?

Webber carb is a simpler carb to work on, set up and it comes with a manual choke, it won't give you any extra performance just more induction noise. Webber carb is the most common way to change from the complicated Pierburg.
There is a few guides out there to fix/repair the Pierburg if you so wish.

Places to sell carbs,
Not 100% sure which one you need so may be worth dropping them an e-mail to make sure you get the right one.

They do pop up on ebay if you want a 2nd hand one then get a service kit for £20 from the places above to make sure it's all clean and working before fitting a 2nd hand unit.

'Ive bought bits from both places and both very helpful.

1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

Its the Weber Type 34ICH that you will be needing-make sure its the right one for your engine size! (see below)
I recommend fast Road Cars too. -01495237456. their official Weber dealers and very helpful.
For my 1.3cc it cost £180.83+Vat delivered and works brilliantly.
Note the 1.5cc uses kit 15290993, 1.6cc uses kit 15290993, 1.3cc uses kit 15290992 and 1.1cc uses kit 15290991.
Hope this helps.
Marcus.

Yes it is the 1.5cc Weber kit- but note it is for a manual car-so (as pointed out) if yours is an auto? you may have to get, or fabricate, a bracket , but that  shouldn't be too hard and these carb's work well.
Good luck will cure all i am sure..

Sorry, just come across this thread, you say your car is a GX Model, this would be the later 1.5 engine and requires a 36TLP / TLP34 Weber carb to replace, I assume your pierburg carb. I think the advert at VWH is misleading.

The TLP36 is obsolete. I have just fitted a new TLP34 to mine, see my project page 28. They are still for sale.
