Hello, i've had some issues with my coolant temp guage which i have now resolved. However when testing i notised that the temp sender (pictured) rests on 33 ohms? this results in the temp guage imidiatly showing the engine as overheating. I tried puting it in hot water and the resistance did drop a little.
When looking for replacments all i found was varius sellers selling it for 200-300€.
I tried to undo the screw on the side but nothing appeared to come lose and the resistanse didn't change, is the top part supposed to come out? otherwise what is the purpose of the screw?
Does it need replacing? And if so is there any cheaper alternetive? Otherwise I was thinking i could try finding one at a scrapyard.

The 2 pin CTS sender that is common on a 90 Ish Digifant and in a Plastic Housing is only about 15-20 USD. They are flaky and temperamental. Blue connector.
The 2 Pin CTS that is usually off a 16V engine, is electrically the same as the Digi but a different case.
Now the CTS sender is for the Electrical Firing part of the engine and not the Temperature of the water coolant.
The Water coolant Temp sender is a 2 pin Black connector on the 90 Digifant 2h engine. It is a single pin black sender on the Coolant flange on.80's series cis or carbed engine. It is the same temp sender that is on your Oil filter flange and sending your Oil temp gauge in your center or lower console.
You can replace the thing for less than 10 pounds. But yours isn't blue or long usually and single pinned.

I think the device in your picture is the thermal timing switch for the fuel injection system, not the coolant temperature sensor, in which case nothing to do with the temperature gauge. I think the coolant temperature sensor for the temperature gauge has part number 251919501D

You're in Sweden?
If so specs. may be different for your car… if you can post up the Bosch and/or VW number plus its values (secs / degrees), all of which should be stamped on the body of the sensor.
They can be checked to an extent if you've access to a multimeter.
The screw you were trying to undo would originally have been sealed, it shouldn't be tampered with.
The entire sensor is intended to be a sealed unit and can't be undone.

Yea, it is a puzzelment when they label them the same.
CTS for the ignition, and CTS for the coolant. Confused the hades out of me when I got my first Cabriolet.
