Not opening heater control valve

Hi
When I move the temperature control in the dashboard it doesn't move the heater control valve in engine bay. I can move the valve manually from engine bay- so pretty sure the valve is ok. I'm thinking the cable has maybe became detached in the dash somewhere- can this be checked without taking the dashboard out? And could the cable therefore be replaced without removing the dashboard?
TIA.

No.  There is a clip that holds the cable to the Swing arm inside the heater controls.

There is also the main pivot that has a clip that can break, and cause the arms to move but not pull the Cable.

There is a time lag on posts, so wait 3 minutes before re-sending your post via Tap-a-talku  as you  have double and triple posts in the forum as of late thanks.

Thanks Brian, do you think I could i see any of that without removing Dash?

Does the heater control panel pop out?

Yeah I can't delete them. The site was showing errors on Tapatalk and via a Web Browser - showing PHP errors reporting  the posts were not successful - then 20 minutes later they all appeared.

Nope.  You have to remove the Dash Surround or Bezel, fascia what ever you want to call it to get to the Controls including the Radio.

Then you can see the arm movement and if it is pulling the wire in the center of the sheath.

Be it also known that a 80 Porsche 944 heater control valve non-Vacuum one is more like the original heater valve on the late 70's and 80's Rabbits/Golfs that were a gate valve and less resistive to change, then the remade newer style that is way stiffer to move than the Gated Valve, and one I personally hate as I have had them blow apart leak when new.

Thanks. Managed to get this far - I can see the cable is still connected to the bottom lever - but it's not moving within the sheath. certainly doesn't open/close the valve in the engine bay.
Is it a new cable?
If I take the full surround off I should be able to replace that cable?

Any idea what that little red light is ?

Take the cable off the heater valve, and see if the cable moves freely, if so replace the heater valve, if not remove the cable off the heater control and see if it moves freely.  If it doesn't then take the cable out and spray the bejeezers out of it with tri-flow and work it till it moves freely and the Tri-flow dribbles out the other end.  Check the cable for Kinks, and abbrasions where they may have allowed dirt and dust in.

If the control doesn't slide easily then remove the assembly, and see if it is broken, then clean it and lube it with white lithium grease.
