Standard "initial" fuel/air

Post

Heya! After a month of flawless driving the (1987 golf converitble with bosch injection) has left me stranded.

Ive since figured the idle control screw & air/fuel mixture screw are both messed up!

Is there a "factory setting"? For example : the idle screw 2 turns out from fully closed?

Im not sure how to describe it otherwise

Many many thanks!

year and fuel type is nice to know?

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

With the idle control screw it's usually the little rubber O ring which fails, it goes hard and flat and lets air in or adjusts it self over time as it rattles lose.
A new o ring can often fix the problem.

Bit more info here.

I'm not sure if there's a factory setting for the idle speed as the idle speed moves when the mixture or timing is adjusted.

The mixture screw in the metering head really needs the car plugged in to a CO exhaust analyser to set it up correctly (1.5% to 2% is where it need to be) but you should be able to set it somewhere near by listening to the engine, you only need to turn the screw a little to make adjustment and don't press down to hard on the Allen key as that pushes down on the flap as adjusts the mixture.

Hiya! Thanks for the information. I just checked the o-ring, looks brand new & doesnt let air through.

The problem im having now is that the engine doesnt run. It doesnt even try. I have spark fuel & air. I know im getting too much fuel but turning the alan key doesnt change a whole lot sadly.

Any other tips for things to check?

Many many thanks!
