On the left hand door there seems to be a metal piece and I'm not sure if this will cause an obstruction primarily I can fit the speaker because the whole needs to be bigger…..
Any idea

Trimming the door metal isn't bad and is hidden by the door card, and as far as trimming the door card as long as you don't exceed the speaker pocket area you should be fine the issue is the map pocket plastic, you cant trim that very much and is best to use a dremel to get precise.
89 cabriolet door being trimmed for a 93.
So there is plenty of room for the speaker.
93 door map pocket.
There is room to trim it but you have to take it easy. I don't have pictures of my 90….with the 4X6 Pockets. It could be that you are going to have to wiggle it in there….then affix it. it may be a really tight fit that taking a 1/16 or 1/8 off the diameter of the speaker map pocket inside will get it to work, as 1/16 isn't much but circumference wise you gain 1/8 of an inch all way around… Same with 1/8 you gain 1/4 in the whole opening size.

The depth of the magnet of the new speaker is quite thick and I'm quite conscious that it may not fit too tell.
To get the circumference of the speakers back to fit, can I use a dremel to cut the metal piece off the metal door frame?
Behind the speakers there is a metal piece which allows the door to open and close, could this cause an issue.

This is the link to the speakers I've got, I measured the magnet bit and the it's 5cm thick….im happy to cut the metal door part behind the speaker, but my only worry is that the speaker may still not fit

Understood about the door check!Briano1234 said
That metal chunk behind the door is the Door check can't do much with it. is that magnet cover removable as in just a rubber wrapper to shields it, that you may be able to remove, other wise you will have to take 'em back and get others….. Or fine a 92/93 cabriolet and use them in the rear as you can get the speaker grilles off of the rear corner covers…
But the metal frame on the door, sure. Could cut the whole bigger via a dremel?

The mounting depth is 51 mm…..does anyone know if this would catch on the door check or would it be fine (before I open all the door cards and start cutting…)

You can trim the speaker hole in the foor with no problems, but I'd avoid cutting the internal structure of the doors as they're pretty flimsey t start with. You may need to purchase other speakers or space them out a bit.

The rubber is only there as a deadener and a protector.

Thanks Ian. I suspect removing the rubber the speaker should fit in, but could there be any long term repurcusions of removing this rubber?

Most speakers dont have rubber boots over the magnets anyway.
Personally I dont think you'll get them in anyway.
I've just fitted some JBL with a far smaller magnet than yours and I only just squeaked it in on the near side door and I still had to remove the door check cover for clearance

I've a set fitted and so do lots of others, nice sound from the speaker, lacks some bass but the speaker placement does not help matters, I've found a sub in the boot over comes the bass problem… https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alpine-SXE-4625-Car-Loudspeaker/dp/B00011FW0Q/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_107_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=CV69D8ERVNDKR4TYGCDW

Just tried it on now without the rubber mounts, they fitted lol. Not too sure if I'm missing something.
Little neoprene washers that are under the nut to keep them from vibrating against the metal of the speaker frame.

No only that little bits of stuff and things will get stuck on the magnet.

Thanks for the message - I think I may have been lucky as the previous owner may have already cut a bigger hole. The left side is a bit annoying as the screw doesn't sit in properly.
Could I put the old 6x 4 in the rear?
