Settling In

Hi
i have limited knowledge of vehicle mechanics but want to try and do as much work myself on my 1989 MK1 Golf Cabriolet. The job for today was to remove the rocker cover clean and replace the gasket. I have watched videos and read what little my Haynes manual says.. Seemed simple enough so gave it a go however i cannot remove the rocker cover as what i am assuming is the throttle cable and bracket is in the way. From what i have seen and read this is normally held in place by a grommet however mine seems to be a complete unit. Please see picture any help on how to remove the cover or remove the throttle cable would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
