Removing tailgate card on a Cabriolet

Post

I want to replace the rubber seal on the tailgate on my car. I can see that I need to remove the card inside the tailgate to get to the lock mechanism but don't know how I should pop out the plastic studs that hold it in place. I don't want to damage anything so thought I'd ask first. What's the best way to get them out?

Thanks!

The best way is to buy a trim fork which is like a two pronged flat bladed screw driver. If not wanting to do that then try a little bit of masking or insulation tape on the head of a wide faced screw driver and gently ease them off by slotting in between and twisting. Ice you get a coupe free grab the trim panel and is this to pull the rest free. Time and patience is always key if you want perfection on no damage.

Great. Thanks. I'll get a proper tool.

They're not barbed on the back, are they? I was worried they might be and that if I forced them out the barbs would pop off and they wouldn't stick in place when I put them back in.

There normally like a fern leaf but you can easily get hold of new ones. Gsf euro car parts etc all sell them even halfords have them I think. But should be able to reuse.

Got this sorted with a £2.99 set of trim removing tools from Amazon. It took about five minutes.
