Rear wiper install driving me mad!

Post

Evening all,
I installed the rear wiper motor on my tintop earlier but can't manage to get the two pieces shown in the photo below to line up either over the hole or even together. I've tried every which way how but don't seem to be able to crack it.

If anybody else has come up against this please get in touch.

Any help gratefully received!

I don't have a tin top so only a guess… but is the bracket which fixes to the rear hatch in the right place as it looks like the bracket should be attached via the middle hole then it will drop down so the bolt hole lines up?

If you look at the bracket there’s a black circle around the middle hole which may of been made by the black fixings in the picture..

Yeah I did wonder that and tried it, only problem is though that nothing else lines up when the two pieces are attached. I also wondered if the motor needs to be in a certain position in its cycle. I imagine all of the bolts should be attached but without another to compare it with it's hard to know.

Yes the Motor needs to be in the parked position.
And I never has a rear window wiper on my golf,  I have had many on different cars I have owned, and when going back I never had any issues with having them mount correctly.

Is this a new to you motor, as there was a different motor used in the Scirocco than the Golf, which would explain the mounting issues you are seeing as the mount on the left side seems short as it should bolt straight up.

If you mash the right side in the picture so that the holes on the left side of the bracket make and you can bolt the left bolt hole then does the rubber side align for a bolt.

For sake of argument are you sure that you have the motor bolted to the bracket correctly?  as the bracket could be need to be flipped… as on the right side is it out of place

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Hi Brian, thanks for the response. Yes it's a new motor to me but actually came off a damaged tailgate that came with all ancillaries I bought on eBay. Interestingly it didn't appear to be properly fitted on the tailgate I took it from.
The diagram you've sent is a huge help! I imagine that it should already be parked position - not sure how I'd know.

Looking at another GTIclub thread it appears yours is the correct part.

The Forum thread shows my old '82/83 GTI hatch that didn't have an extra spacer piece?

Ah, ok so there may be a few extra bits on there that aren't necessarily needed? Thanks for this!
