problem with turn indicators solved

kept blowing fuse 11

Further to my post about fuse No.11 shorting out. I have now found out the problem and upload the solution here. It is a very strange and unusual problem so I thought it warranted writing about it. It is wholly the fault of VW and an appalling design of the indicator switch block on the steering column.

Basically the diecast switch block support is shorting out a brass switch track, which in this particular position is acting as a holding locator for the track.

I put photos below - at least I have if I can get this pesky system to work 1switch25.jpg

This picture shows the rear of the indicator switch block. On the right is one of the mounting holes for one of the three bolts and the brass square is the problem

The casting at the top right, shorts out on the brass square shown in the first photo. You can see I have filed some off the web away to stop it contacting the brass on the switch block

To make sure I have put a bit of tape over the web I filed to make double sure it is not shorting the brass square on the switch block.

The result is a complete cure, after two weeks and a lot of input from the forum

GREAT STUFF…I HAVE GOT IT TO WORK!!
