Weird to see a Mechanical Head on a DigiFant engine.

Like the Multi-colors that it is rocking.

You head has 5 Journals over the Cam.  That is indicative to a Mechanical head from a mid 80's 1.8.

Whereas the later 1.8 engines had a 4 journal head that should be missing the Journal from the number 3 to the end. which would indicate that it had Hydraulic Lifters.

The Control module for the EFI is also not stock, and I am not sure of the make, as EFI on a Digi was DIGIFANT II, or DIgi1 which is seen more on the pre 91.5, and 89 California Equipped 1.8 over here.

That is it is also rocking a water cooled Oil Cooler which wasn't on the Cabriolets in the 90's but on some GOLFS and JETTA, and Passants from the 90's…. SO I say you have a Frankenstein engine of sorts…  The Fuel rail is more 94ish, than a 90's Digi as well,  The Fuel pressure regulator is a different type than is seen on the MK1 90's platform.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
