Hi hope some one can help my VW Golf 1.1 is overfueling when driving it feels like the choke is out and when it decides it can not go on any longer it cuts out and the engine stops but the carb still keeps flooding fuel into the inlet manifold and the fuel runs out of breather pipe at the bottom of the carb that delivers vacuum to the dizzy I have replaced the fuel tank as it was full of rust the fuel lines front to back the swirl pot and the 34 ICH webber carb but I still have the same problem any ideas would be great tried everything all out of ideas Cheers Rob

I'm not familiar with the Webber carb on these but it sounds to me like the needle valve is worn or sticking or maybe the float is stuck or not lifting the needle valve so the float chamber is over filling and the fuel is over flowing into the engine. There should be a float chamber breather, normally it vents over the venturi. Does fuel come out of here when it's running?

I thought the same that the carb was worn out hence I have got a brand new carb fuel floods in to the venturi when it is running and continues when the vehicles is not running filling the venturi with fuel until it empties the float chamber more or less this was the same as the old carb and the new carb

Do you have a return line to the tank? If it's a new carb and you're sure it's set up correctly then maybe the return line is blocked.

Thanks Sautly for your advice I have tried all these thing still no better the only thing I have noticed is the fuel tank pick up has the filter missing from the bottom and the little ball bearing inside the pipe missing...That would not make a difference......Would it...clutching at straws to be honest

Pull the fuel return fuel off at the carb and blow down it with your mouth, you should be able to blow down it.
The fuel pick up without a filter missing should make no difference to running, the filter is there to stop any rusty bits getting into the fuel system and as long as you have a in line filter fitted toy should be fine.
What little ball bearing do you mean? not seen one of those but I have a big block cars…
