Hi - first post here
Bought new coil for my Golf mk1 cabriolet. Resistance ok on primary and secondary, and also on the HT lead when connected.
But no spark when I start and the engine just cranks.
Is the issue the HT lead fitting? On the new one it’s a cylinder and old one is a pin. See picture for reference.
Any guidance much appreciated!

Very likely, as you suggest, the HT socket on your new coil is not compatible with your existing HT cable. So you will need either a different coil, or new cable compatible with the new coil

Because the coil output voltage is so high there shouldn't be a problem with the connections to at least give you a spark. Can you shove a bit of plastic covered wire in the terminal…Hold it in place with a bit of plasticene or blue tack and put the other end of the wire to the top terminal on the spark plug. turn the engine over and you should see a spark on the plug. If there isn't a spark there's something wrong with the coil. or the connections to the coil. This of course is with a spark plug lying on the engine so you can se a spark or lack thereof. .
I should ask Heritage for the correct plug for the coil, you should be able to change the end of the lead to the correct plug easily enough AFTER you have made sure the new coil is giving you a spark.
P.S. keep clear of the wires whilst you are doing that, as you might get a shock.
