Lots of work needed then….
Rough cost but alot depends on what work you do yourself eg - respray - if you strip the car and send in a shell I guess £1500 upwards alot more if the body shop has to strip all the car for you.
Why does the engine need a rebuild? Mostly they just need the head looking at?
I paid £100 on my head for a skim, new valve guilds fitted and a dam good clean but I striped the head completely and refitted new steam seal and valves etc.
No idea on engine block as I've never done it.
New Mohair roof approx £300 if you fit it yourself or about £450 fitted.

Thanks for that I am restoring my parents car which has been given to me so just getting a rough guide on prices been quoted £2500 for a re-spray they are doing all the work and £1200 for a complete re-trim but they are trying to match the original pattern for me if they can if not looks like it might have to be leather.Wanting a MoHair hood as looks and lasts longer also a stainless steel exhaust but a sympathetic one not a load one if you know what i mean any recommendations? The engine has done over 250000 miles but the car has been well maintained only one owner from birth in a very rare green as you can see from my profile. The car is totally original .

If you want to do the roof properly it will cost more than £450. The rear window frames can rot out, the interliner disintegrates and what condition is the (inner) headlining? Then there's the back lip around the body to look at and attend to too.

If your car needs a respray it makes sense to do this at the time of replacing the roof, ie take roof partially off, do respray, put new hood on.

Any rust? Are you sure?? This will massively impact the amount of time needed on the bodywork and respray.
