Mk1 door handles

Post

I'm slightly confused with this one? Just bought a pair of genuine rear Mk1 door handles off ebay & they are plastic!? All the mk1's I've owned over the years were defo alloy ones. They do have VW Audi stamp & Germany on the inside though.  Are these genuine ones made later on? Any info on this would be great.

Think they made plastic for later cars.. especially as they cost peanuts now. The originals maybe you can swap the new internals to fit the old alloy type. My issues have been the different fork lever on the differing handles always have had to swap.

Well, as a Driver of a 81 Rabbit/Golf Diesel 4dr LS off the showroom floor, and of latter Cabriolets of the 90's have all been Plastic Handles, some of the Audi's Scirroco's had totally metal handles, and I think I could of bought them as options on my Rabbit when I ordered it.

The Plastic handles are around a Center Pot metal mechanism. I have always seen the Pot metal Screw Tab at the back Break, and I have tried glue and other stuff over the years and nothing ever worked except a new handle.

I have seen chrome ones in a wrecking yard from time to time, but ya know I never even thought about getting them.  I even thought that one of the Porsche handles were the same.
