Mk1 blue interior

Post

Hi, I am new to the forum and mk1 ownership. I have just purchased a mk1 golf GL which has one blue trim type on the front seat, and a light pattern on the rear. My questions are…

What type of material/pattern is this?
Anyone know where someone might be selling a matching back seat?
Finally can material be sourced (and from where) to trim the rear to match the fronts?

Thanks in advance ☺️

Welcome to the forum.

What year is your car please?

If you look in the boot on the rear panel, you may see a sticker. If you could get a photo of the sticker we'll be able to see the interior options on it.

Hi, and thank you for the reply 😊   Dano

It's a 1982 and I have attached the boot sticker. Hope this helps. I think it says interior code GC if that looks right.

The closest for the seat cloth appears to be in the August 1981 brochure but titled 1982.

This may be quite close from Werk34

West Trading also stock a good range of material - but only deal with the trade so a public supplier would need to be arranged. Car Upholstery, West Trading

Your front seats could have been recovered at some point because they look in pretty good condition. What does the rear seat look like?

Thanks Dano , very helpful and really appreciate the reply. I have attached a picture of the rear seats and am wondering if the rear is the original and fronts perhaps an addition at some point in time.

I'd say that this is the original cloth for your rear seats. They look faded and I'd expect the fronts to have worn more than the rears & possibly been replaced.

West Trading (trade customers only) have the brown version of the cloth shown as available. I wonder if they have blue and it's just not advertised - or I may have missed it. 🤔

Thanks Dano  , super helpful and thanks so much for continuing to try and get to the bottom of this. Really appreciate it.

The sample you found also ties in with the "GC" code from the boot sticker you highlighted too.

I have dropped West Trader an email asking about a blue alternative to the Beige you found, I do think you are right that it looks the closest. I noticed they send samples but wont send them to a general public customer, only trader so I will have to commit to a re-trimming company in order to get a sample (or an amount to re-trim).

Quick update - I have managed to purchase a 1982 brochure from Ebay and sure enough the Golf GL with Diamond Silver exterior colour was paired with the blue trim you mentioned Dano . I have attached the pictures too as I thought the matrix was very handy for anyone trying to understand exterior colours and what interior trim they are paired with for a 1982 spec car :) Trim and colour 2.jpg Trim and colour.jpg
