MFA LCD Replacement - new screen not working

Post

Might seem a silly question, but I got my replacement LCD screen some time ago.  It doesn't have any instructions, and there is no identification on the screen as to which way up is correct.  Am I right to assume that it shouldn't matter, or is there a way to tell?

I'm just about to tackle this tricky job, and don't want to have to do it again if the screen ends up being upside down.

I would suggest that you use a 9v dc battery to the Positive and Negative side.  I would of suspected that looking at it you could see the thing from the right side up is up or down…. Or there should be an arrow point to up.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

Cheers Briano, there's the smallest of tabs on the side which lines up with a little ridge inside the holder.

Next problem got it all stripped down, new LCD installed, all back together but the clocks are still dead. The lights all work with ignition on, just the LCD blank.  Checked fuse 3 but it's fine.

Is there an easy way to put 12v on the clocks somehow to see if the LCD is working? I wasn't able to test the LCD before I installed it.

So, just to confirm, I have 12V going to the LCD ok, but the display is now like this.  When I press the adjustment buttons below the display I can see the pixels changing, but not to anything that makes sense.

Any ideas if this is a dud display or something else?

Would have to say that you may not have all the pins aligned, as the segments aren't all touching…. Haven't had one of these types of things apart in years…

Took it all apart again, it can only be fitted one way, but this time I re-used the original little contact strips.  All the segments are operational, but the display is showing nonsense.

I've tried disconnecting battery, removing fuse etc.  If I assume the display is actually ok, what can I do next?  Maybe I should leave it all connected for a while and see if it starts to show the time.

Depends on which LCD you got in the first place
There’s differences between the GTI and Clipper as they’re non MFA.

It's definitely an MFA screen, it's got the 6 arrows along top and bottom of screen for each MFA function.
