Post

I've had a headlight out on the drives side only (no high/low beam) spot lights work ok. I can get the bulb to flick on/off by pushing on the fuse No 22 would anyone know a fix for this? Cheers

Fuses do go wonky, and the fingers that hold the fuse can get weak if corrosion occurs, and well the corrosion can build up heat and cause the fuse box meltdown.

I just had this happen to my 92 a/c fuse, I ended up having to source a new fuse holder and splice it in to the  back of the fuse panel.

Before I went and bought a new one I might take the old one off (label everything) and pop it apart to see if you can't clean the corrosion and possibly tighten the connections.

here is a fuse box off a 89 cabriolet.

I would link the photos but alas photobucket is having major issues….  suffice to say that you can se where you can tweak the fuse holders together.

Here is what I had happen earlier this year, needless to say I fitted a 30amp Breaker….

I think the lesson that I learned is to occasionally pull out and reseat my fuses to keep them clean.

Over on this side of the pond the ACG type fuses are more common than the OEM VW fuses, and the legs are a tad thicker which may assist you in the way they slide in and grab the fuse block fingers.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?
