Injection pump questions!!

Post

I installed a new injection pump in to my 1.5 diesel. When get on hills the engine begins to run hotter, dumps out smoke, and loses power to the point it almost stalls. Is the injection pump screw set to high? The car does smokes a lot on top of it.

There is no "Set Screw adjust for the Diesel"
That is really a REV limiter.

You have to set your Ip timing with a dial gauge in the Back of the pump (metal plug between the injection lines on the pump manifold).

You set the basic engine in time, loosen the plug install the gauge zero it out, then loosen the 3 bolts holding it to the bracket under the gear, and rotate it left or right to the desired number ie: 95….

On a Diesel setting the timing marks on the ip that is staking or pinning the gear gets you into the soccer stadium.  Setting the ip timing by dial gauge gets you to your section level and seat.

To advanced and you can blow smoke to retarded will get you over heating/smoking and terrible acceleration.

The Haynes and the Bentley have the settings, and you can probably google it…. It just has been about 17 years since I had to last set a diesel ip timing….. The difference can be from 35 to 50 mpg…. Found that out the first time I changed a timing belt back in 84-85…..

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
