History of my Golf

I am looking into purchasing the Birth certificate kit from Volkswagen Classic parts at a cost of 99 Euros. Do people recommend having one of these and if you have one do you recommend it.

Also attached a picture of my Engine plate. Can you tell which year your car was made by this.

From side way numbers 
42 is week number of build year 
2 is the day of week (2=Tuesday)

From VIN "D" is model year, 1983.    Which ran aug 1982-July 1983

Wowsers they sure went up in the price of those, as when I bought mine for my blue cabby it was @ 40USD.

What do you get for your money?

Does that make my build date 2nd May 1983?
