Historic road tax classification

My Mk1 just turned 40, so it should now qualify as a historic vehicle i.e., no road tax to pay. According to the DVLA website all I have to do is pop along to my local post office with my log book and MOT and they will sort it out. However, this does not seem to be the case. I have been to 2 post offices and neither were able to do it. They said that they can only change it to a disability class and that I had to send my logbook to the DVLA.
Does anyone have any experience of this and can offer any advice?
Thanks

If your car was registered is October 1983 you will be tax exempt in April 2024, then you can go to the post office.
(Note if your car was regsitered Jan -April you still have to wait to the following April)

1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

If your car is registered before the 8th Jan and you don't know the build date they will give you the benefit of the doubt that it must have been built the year before, good of them.

My Chevy has no front plate, and I'm pretty sure I could get away with losing the rear one where I live… I'm fortunate to not have to worry about ulez though, that sucks.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

If you have a different browser I would suggest to use that. On one of my Fiber Routers, I had installed the Company's "Security software", and that was stopping my from going to non-https sites.
So try a different browser, or check your routers security software.
After reaching that site I had a nice trip down memory lane reading about the best car I ever owned the 72 Rover 3500S.
No offense to the Decades of fun I have had with my 81 Rabbit Diesel LS and my Cabriolets.

This exact same thing happened to me yesterday at the post office - couldn't do it they scanned the bar code on my V5c - I took in V112 form too exempt from MoT.

I've had an MOT check done which it passed with a couple of small advisories.
See what DVLA comes back with

Look at this website to do it all by post and online, you don't have to go to a post office. I used this info to change the tax category on my RS2000
Applying for Tax Exemption | The Rover P6 Club
I can get to the site OK, but it doesn't give any details regarding changing the Tax class. It just says. 'This page doesnt seem to exist. It looks like the link pointing here was faulty…' I tried searching in the search box there but no joy.
Golfy1 please can you try another way to post that info.
Thanks
