Happily cruising along the dual carriageway at 60-70 mph, half tank of fuel, temp gauge normal when all of a sudden lost power & engine cut off. We rolled on to the verge and there was a red light behind the temp gauge needle. Turned off the ignition and after about 30 secs turned the key engine fired up and we made the last 5 miles at a steady 50 mph with no further issues - any ideas of cause .

Year and model, with engine and fuel type injection or carb would be nice to know

It is a Pierburg - however I think I have located the issue the lead from the distributor to the coil was loose. Cheers both for input
