Need to buy a new / refurbished Bosch distributor for my Golf mk1 1.1 GL 37KW FA engine
IK need to buy a new distributor original:
Bosch code 0231 186 017
VW Code 052 905 205
I cannot find the original part. All the suppliers, included VW Classic Parts Center, says that the original Bosch is not more available. They have the variant
VW Code 052 905 205 A available for engines FJ: still 1.1 liter but with 2 HP more. (FA is 50 HP, FJ 52 HP).
Here's my HELP question:
starting from your personal EXPERIENCE, do you know if 052 905 205 A distributor for FJ engies fits FA engines too with NO ISSUES ?!
Do you know if thirdy parts sell this component, too?!
Do someone have one of those in stock to sell to me? Refurbished?
Many thanks in advance for your reply and gentle feedback. I repeat I dont care what suppliers says: I wanna know if someone tried the 'A' version on FA.

Hi Daniele,
I too have been having the same problem, and have found the correct one to be unobtainablelike you found.
The ….205A distributor though physically initially looks the same, the mountings to engine has two slots for adjusting the timing and NOT the THREE slots that you and my original has!! You cannot simply use "just two slots"- as their in a completely different position to the original one and will not line up.
(I understand the advance curve may be different too but this might not be a problem though I do not know).
With mine, after finding a really good 'A' model and then discovering it was not going to be any use-UNLESS it is possible to swap the bearings/ core into the original 3 slot body??- was put to one side.
Your distributor might not be as bad as you think!? SO I suggest the solution I found:
It is possible to get the correct new points from VW Heritage, part no:036-998-051/A. Get these and then having marked the position of the original distributor , remove it and install points. Probably, like mine there is wear on the centre shaft bearings, -BUT -the top plate should hold this to the minimum. Because of this wear you may have to adjust the points WHILE THE DISTRIBUTOR IS OFF THE ENGINE to a WIDER GAP that recommended- as when you refit the play will close the gap a little ! Try one or more times to end up with a correct gap fitted.
Fit a BERU or VW cap as their the best quality.
With luck the car should run as mine does without problem.
Hope this helps.
Marcus.
