GTi fuel lines

Post

Hi

Newbie, here with first help post, so go easy on me!

Got leaky fuel lines and looking best place for replacements - see photo.
Starting with rigid curved pipe into pump.
Believe is p/n  533201297 and vwheritage its £114!:
https://www.vwheritage.com/533201297-metal-fuel-pump-supply-hose-mk2-scirocco-mk1-cabriolet/
But think can get for £26 from:
http://www.allcarpartsfast.co.uk/vw-audi-seat-skoda/vw-audi-seat-skoda-533201297-pipe/
So anyone confirm if that's the correct part?
For hose between pump and accumulator believe its:
http://www.classic-vw.co.uk/mk1-golf-cabrio--scirocco-fuel-pipe-pump-to-accumulator-533201220-14343-p.asp
So last one is the hose from accumulator to feed pipe, but the one on classic-vw looks longer than one I removed, so this correct:
http://www.classic-vw.co.uk/mk1-golf-fuel-pipe-accumulator-to-main-supply-line-171201218c-7527-p.asp
Then finally the feed and return pipes - was going to make up myself with 8mm kunifer but looks kinda tricky where they pass up into engine bay.
Are the ones on classic-vw pre-bent or just a coil with fittings?
http://www.classic-vw.co.uk/mk1-golf-gti-rigid-fuel-line-kit-83-171201361b--171201217d-7678-p.asp
Or is just easier to spent money on flexis for £151 plus £7.50 shipping?

Sorry for lots of questions, so one last one - guessing worth becoming member for discounts, how much do members get for above sites?

Cheers
John

Apart from the its-a-VW-so-parts-are-very-expensive, the other problem with the solid lines is that you need to get them up the bulkhead behind the steering rack. May be possible without removing lots of stuff with it up on a ramp?

Otherwise someone does a kit of hydraulic/fuel type pipe with the correct fittings that's much easier to route from the tanks end to the engine end

1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Thanks, yes even to remove the old pipes I ended up having to cut in 2 as no way of removing with car on axle stands - front ARB in way too, but have that removed now.
Was sort of guessing would be tricky bending own pipes and trying install on stands - really need ramp and the clearance to manoeuvre up into engine bay.
So looks like the braided flexi lines at near £160 best option :(Ah well was hoping to do bit cheaper

Anyone know the member discounts to CQ and classic-vw?

Hi

Ref 1985 GTi cabby.

Plan to order all fuel lines/hoses from CQ so over £200 worth in basket so far, so bit of discount would be nice - if there a code for paid members?

Just still not sure about the hose from accumulator to feed pipe, still can't find the correct one as one on CQ says
Hatch and cab to '84
vw heritage also states
Golf Cabriolet 79-84 up to Chassis 15-E-011-290

So anyone confirm if correct if p/n is 171201218C?

Cheers
John

Spoke to Rich at CQ and he has sorted me out with nice set of braided flexis, so happy chappy! Will be much easier to fit.

Also worth noting, Rich advised you don't need the short hose from accumulator as the long feed braided hose connects directly to the accumulator so this offsets the cost of the long hoses by £34.50!

I did this a few months ago, great product and far easier to fit. Enjoy!!

yes recommend the braided hoses, easy to fit compared with 'rigid' pipes
hard to believe that was 4 years ago, was just before MOT as up again now

I made my own fuel and brake lines for my Mk1 GTi tin top. If you are confident in making your own it's worth exploring. From eBay,  I bought Cupronickel piping material, pipe bender, pipe unions, and a bubble flaring tool kit. I first cut a small piece and practiced bubble flaring and bending shapes to get used to it. I removed the old piping and basically used the old pipe as a template (leave extra long ends and trim once you have the shape).

If you don't want the headache then you can look at the braided lines as the other members mention from experience.

mines leaking like mad seems to have been bodged badly over the years with random hoses.
what im looking for is a solution to replace the pipe & hose that go from swirl pot to the inlet of the fuel pump.
i think one of the pipes reduces in diameter and the metal pipe turns 180 degrees , ive seen on heritage they do them but works out like £100 just for them!
anyone shed any light on diameters so maybe i can make something up for a fraction on the price

Referring back to my photo above, I remember that 180 degree metal pipe on mine had a small pin hole (had been rubbing) so was dripping fuel and was struggling to make a piece similar so ended up cleaning up pipe (showed was solid bar small hole) and dropped small bit of solder to seal the small hole. Pipe is low pressure side of main pump and solder still holding strong now. Then hose either side of this pipe was just replaced with new standard rubber fuel hose and clips. Then short hose from outlet of pump to accumulater I got from CrazyQuiffs for around £20, then outlet from accumulater was new long braided hose from CQ which replaced existing short braided hose and corroded metal pipe.
Not sure on diameters, recall 8mm but not 100% sure.

Fancy a laugh……

I spent all summer and about £2K changing my fuel tank, refurbing the rear axle, converting to discs, new master cylinder and servo, making many new brake lines all because I kept losing power and put it down to dirt in the fuel tank so replaced it along with pump accumulator etc.

Finally put it all back in place today and the hard feeder pipe has split / holed….. Grrrrrrrr

So I guess the poor running and not starting was down to low fuel pressure and not any of the other parts. (by the way I uncovered a load of rot and needed new chassis leg, inner and outer sill) - DID I SAY ITS TAKEN ALL SUMMMER……

Think I shall buy some new copper line and stitch in the straight length along the one side for now until I can afford the flexi line kit……

good thread and help me make my mind at to do a good bodge/repair for now.
