Hi
I bought a nice set of braided fuel hoses from CQ and fitted them few weeks back and just temporarily clipped them in using the same rubber supports and metal clips on underside of car. Now these supports are intended for the original rigid 8mm steel fuel lines so not really ideal for the larger OD braided hoses.
Doing final prep for first MOT in over 11 years so whats the best way to clip these?
Use P-clips? If yes, ok to just attach with self tappers?
Also any rules for MOT about gaps between clips for such hoses etc?
Found P-clips on ebay, so thinking something like these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rubber-Lined-P-Clips-Wiring-Hose-Clamp-Pipe-Cable-P-Clip-Metal-Zinc-Plated/262776387857?_trksid=p2045573.c100505.m3226&_trkparms=aid%3D555014%26algo%3DPL.DEFAULT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D43782%26meid%3D46c1bbf5082f4e64ba0e0f11c000c3fc%26pid%3D100505%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26
Also the 2 spring type clips above the steering rack not working too well either - would be difficult to add P-clips due to access, so any suggestions?
Cheers

I'd try and make the originals work rather than making holes in the floor pan and bulkhead with self tapers.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Yes thanks agree not ideal putting holes in floor etc
Have used originals but don't seem as secure as original pipes so was thinking might be MOT fail esp here in NI as MOT centres are run by DVTA and inspectors latch onto anything non standard.
Was thinking maybe decent cable ties around each for extra security might do.

thanks John, did you re-use the rubber grommet type things as well, or just wrap the clips round the hoses
with the rubber around the hoses, it just looked bit bulky for the OE clips, but maybe I'm just fussing bout nothing!

I used (underneath) the original metal brackets minus the rubber bits, I also put a cable tie around the braided hoses adjacent to each bracket. unfortunately the project was abandoned before any road use to check the success.

thanks, that's 3 saying using existing clips, so will go with that.
agree rubber grommets off will reduce the bulk and clips should be more secure
thanks to all again

I cant actually remember now you ask
the new lines have the over-braid so you probably dont need the oem rubber, what I would suggest is get a thin strip of rubber or thick tape of some kind just to stop the lines and clips chafing together

John, yes agree need something - have some thin rubber sheet and black duct tape which will do job if done neatly
Ian, on CQ page http://www.golfmk1.co.uk/Items.php?cat=SLAREA&group=UNDERSIDEFUEL, scroll done to FLCAB for both pressure/return lines - they were correct for my car - can also scrap the small exising braided hose from accumulator to pressure line as CQ hose is longer and joins directly to accumulator
