wont stay running on start up
hi guys, lookign for some help please, i have an 87 mk1 gti cab an storage at the moment, i normally start and run it once and month but today
went to the car and tried starting up and it just dies, it tries to start as normal runs for a split second then dies??? any help would be great thanks

Have a look at my post from page 3 onwards, mine was metering head plunger sticking plus plug leads the wrong way round.

Mine did this after been stood for a while, it was the fuel pump relay

First check basics such as ignition leads, spark, blockage in fuel tank / pipes / filter etc…..stale fuel is usually not good during long storage…..try to drain and put fresh fuel……
Possibility of the fuel metering head plunger stuck and check free movement of the air sense plate.
If these are free moving, then test to see the cold start valve is operating by testing the thermo time switch……if this is all functional, look at the warm up regulator.
Hook up a fuel pressure guage and see what fuel pressure you are getting…….when engine is cold during start up the fuel pressure should be low and the WUR will slowly bring the fuel pressure up during warm up. Brown Haynes Manual has a good graph showing pressure vs time……
