Just put vw 53 relay into eBay.

That's a relay not a fuse.

As Roach says, loads about as they are fitted to loads of cars.

Or go to a scrap yard and find any VAG car as I expect they are still used in today's car?

53 is a standard relay similar to the type used to relay headlamps and fog lights….

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Looking at the relay in your pictures it looks as if you have had water coming in the car in dripping on your fuse box as the legs of the relay look a little rusty?

I think unfortunately you are correct. The car was sat outside for 4 ish years prior to my ownership. Luckily it didn't go rusty but it did leak water in on to the fusebox..

I am battling with fuel pump issues at the moment and have replaced the fuel pump relay  which had the same corrosion.

Will try and take some time and go through everything and clean it all up as best as possible this week and then hopefully it should start.

Plugged Rain Drains on the Scuttle, cause water to back up in the tray and find any weak area as in Grommets or seals that pass-through.

The other issue is around the windshield if there is Rust around it.

The Radio aerial if the co-ax doesn't have a drip stop loop then water can run in from there as well.

For Future reference.
Here is what a Fuse box look like internally.

Did you notice that there was corrosion starting on f1 and f2 locations….?

Here are a Few fixes that I have come up with for debris issues with the drain tray drains.

Clean then and route all hoses and such out of them.
