I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I've seen several threads but none seem to be conclusive.
I've got an 83 GTI (1.8 8v) I'm rebuilding and i bought a new repro tank from Heritage a little while ago, I've noticed the internal differences to the original tank (no internal filter and flap on the inlet pipe). From what i can remember when stripping the car down I had the fuel level sender (not the one with the internal lift pump) and no external swirl pot which seems to tie in with the 7zap exploded view for an 83 GTI. I've seen people complain that these aftermarket tanks cause fuel starvation?
What setups are people using with the aftermarket tanks to prevent this? I've seen people using the internal lift pump, external swirl pot and in-line filter but surely there is a way to run the repro tank with the standard fuel level sender, standard pump and no swirl pot? Was hoping to just plumb it in as original as above but will this cause problems?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

After about 84.5 they went to 13 gallon tanks with a mod to the body an internal lift pump and external swirl.
I would imagine they left the parts off because of production costs the newer 10 gallon tanks.
Can't help you with the retrofit of a newer lower quality part, but I have heard this on Various sites for years.

With your repro tank did you have any problems with the fuel pump? As the standard 0580254909 fuel pump requires an inline filter before hand and the repro tanks don't have the internal filter housing?

I'm sure loads of people on here must be running aftermarket repro fuel tanks on their GTi's.

Just wondering if anyone knows if I've got all the fuel lines here? (Obviously excluding rigid and rubber hoses). Getting new custom ones made and I'm pretty sure this is all them. The bottom one does look very very long tho, does it look right ?
Cheers again
