I've changed the fuel pump.
I've stripped and cleaned the carb (Weber, brand new) but found no dirt.
I've replaced the fuel tank with a new tank, the original tank had rust particles in it.
I've blown through the fuel lines with compressed air so I know they are not blocked.
I am getting air bubbles pulling through, which can be seen in the fuel filter - and they are being pulled into the fuel pump supply.
I've tried running with the fuel cap off, in case it wasn't breathing.
All to no avail, although at least now, the car dies but comes straight back to life again
I've two things left to eliminate, I'm going to thoroughly inspect the hard fuel lines rear to front, for anywhere that air could be drawn in, and I'm going to investigate the breather pipes under the right side wheel housing, I believe there is a one way valve up there.
Failing that …….. I don't know where else there is to cause the problem. I am aware some of the pattern fuel pumps can be poor quality.

I have seen others on the forum mentioning that you do not need a fuel return, or that you need to restrict the fuel return, if a Weber carb is fitted.
So after lots of breaking down and more test driving I found that on my car, I can reduce the amount of air bubbles in the fuel if I do just that

I discovered however, that my car has changed from being an instant starter, to a reluctant starter - (hot or cold).
So what I’ve done is restrict flow in the fuel return line, I’ve inserted a stopper with a small hole in it.
