Fuel sender.

My fuel sender isn’t working took it out to find it rather rusted and generally poor condition. VW gave me a part number 533-919-051/f I can’t find this. VW heritage have part number 533-919-051/e which it says does golf GTI convertible up to 84, mine is 85. Do you know if these are compatible?

I would be more worried as to how the internal tank looks as well as the filler neck.

You can take the sender assembly apart and try to soak it in Vinegar to clear the rust.

Turns out, a wire brush and put back together did the job.

There should be a bit of rubber hose the same length as the fuel pick up for the fuel return, you have a little bit of the hose still attached to the sender…

looks like this…. But the one listed is from a Polo not a Mk1 Golf as the electrical contact is pointing upwards and Golf one’s point to the side……
