Oh. I read that you could get braided ones. I didn't know that was standard.

Looking further the one from filter to meterhead isn't but looks like this

£100?
Perhaps I can find the same type of rubber tubing as mine will be a custom length.

looks like the meterhead to engine ones have been modified too, might be worth checking for cracking and splits on those

The other pipes looked fine, but I'll double check.

I wonder if this would do the trick…

It has the right amount of twist and is the right part number.

Any supplier of hydraulic equipment should have a workshop where they repair and make up hoses, there's one down here called 'Armada', they've done a couple for me.
Was it expensive?
This is near me https://www.rotec.net/
I'm going to call them tomorrow.

The first one I had done was the braided hose at the rear of the Mk1 that goes from the pump to the accumulator, I think that's right. I was working then and someone there actually made me an end fitting because mine was rusty, I sold the car with that still on about 15yrs later.
The other one was a fuel pressure gauge they made up for me.
If you try it make sure you get the orientation of the end fittings right because there isn't much give in the hose.

I went to the hydraulic centre. They didn't have the ends in stock, but said they could make it up for me. I realised that I didn't really know what I wanted. How do I get a normal tube into that sort of shape?? They gave me some proper ethanol proof pipe, the compression clips, and taught me how to fit them myself. £6 in total.
I've tried getting the pipe to fit, but I'm not sure it's doable in a sensible way. I could do it the way it was done before:

Or I could try to loop it over the top like the original:

It's pretty tight in there without the metal elbow of the original. It's also difficult to create the 180 degree bend in the pipe. I don't think brading would help at all. I'll give it another go, but it seems it would be best to go with the original part rather normal/braded tubing.

You'd need to fit the banjos without clamping and align them to prevent the hose twisting.

I noticed that one of banjos has a slightly thinner diametre than the other. The pipe I have is thicker so the compression clamps don't work quite so well on that end. I managed to the run the engine, but there was a slight seeping from that end of the pipe
I ordered the proper part, and some new compression washers. It was worth trying though.
