Hi I have looked around couple of places and  it seems a lot of people have put Audi TT seats in, I had an 89 gti cabby,has anyone done this and if so how easy is it I have my original seats if I need to nick the runners I can

Any seats are fittable, you just need to do a bit (or possibly a lot) of chopping and welding.

Searching the forum I can't find anything specific but I know I've read a guide somewhere. Might have been in a build thread.

There are basically two ways of doing it:

1, Keep the original mk1 golf mounts in the car and use the old runners chopped up and with added catch plates to take the bolt holes of the new seats.
This menas you use the original runners in the car and basically throw away the sub frames from the seats being fitted. Therefore the seats sit at around the height of the orginal seats and run backwards and forwards on the original runner

2, Chop out the original seat mountings and use some sort of universal sub frame to mount the new seats.
You then use the new subframes for running the seat back and forth.

I've done Porsche seats and mx5 seats into golfs. Takes a lot of measuring and cutting and welding.

My next plan is for some Alfa seats……..

I fitted half leather recaros from a Rover coupe turbo (tomcat) into my Mk3 polo (Mk1 Golf seat fitting) when I was 18.

Admittedly I was young and wanted everything doing immediately but it seemed to take forever and be a pony job.
Looked so good after though

Personally, I enjoyed the seats in my GOLF/Rabbit of the 80's what with the straight back, and flat seat bottom made driving a real joy as compared to my early introduction to Bucket Seats in my 58 Frog-eyed Sprite, and or my early MG….The Rover3500s was like sitting in a Barco-Lounger… Then I opted for a Toyota that literally was Painful after a back injury and toooooooo low to the ground to enter or exit afterwards.

I did place the foam and cushions from a Passat in my 1st Cabriolet seats and they were delightful on longer rides….Yes I cut the bolster bars off…prior to the replacement of the foam.

My body really at this point of life doesn't really car for the sport seats….. besides I don't drive that fast…and I want to enjoy the ride, as well as entering or leaving the car.
