Eibach springs with Bilstein Shocks

Post

  Hi Guys,

I’ve just replaced all 4 coil springs with Eibach Pro lowering springs on my tin top Mk1. The 2 front shocks were also replaced with Bilstein B4s and Febi top mounts. The rear Boge shocks were fitted recently so I’ll change them to B4s later.

Eibach’s are only supposed to lower around 35mm which maintains ride quality. However, the drop seems a little more than expected, which I quite like. However, the ride is a tad firmer than expected, but it’s fine, I can live with it.

When fitting, my mechanic could not fit the little spacers (pictured) that came with the top mount kit, because with the 2 bolts from the top mount would not protrude enough through the suspension housing to tighten the nuts properly. However, without the spacer the 2 bolts seem to protrude more than standard (see pic).

If any of you guys have the same Eibach/ Bilstein setup, is it normal to exclude the spacers or do I need to fit them?

Is the absence of the spacers causing the over expected lowering and firmer ride?

Also, the rear seems to be slightly lower than the front. Is that because I didn’t change the rear shocks to Bilstein B4s as well?

Your help, as always greatly appreciated
