Ordered brake pads from ECP for my mk1 rivage cabriolet, using the reg, but completely different to what has come off, as in the picture below!
My question is have ordered incorrectly, or has a previous owner changed the calipers? (Although I wouldn't know why they look just as rubbish!)

From memory the new ones look like mk1 gti type, the older ones look more like my g60 pads, I think also used on the 256mm mk2. EDIT just had a thought, not sure if 16v scirrocco had something similar. Probably want to measure disc dia.

That is the issue with new to you cars, you don't know what the PO (previous owner) did, and why I like to stay OEM.
What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.
Where are my DIY Links?

post pics of your brake setup. you may have G60 280mm brakes fitted with adaptors, or 256mm brakes fitted using scirocco 16v/audi 80 parts.
the 16v pads are the same shape as 280mm pads except they are thinner

Hi John, looking at pictures on the locals parts shop computer yesterday I noticed there were thicker and thinner pads but didn't know what for what so your post makes perfect sense to me… I actually ordered the thinner ones so fingers crossed! Unfortunately I had to roll the golf back in the garage unfinished as the driveway was dug up this morning, so going to be a few days before I can get in and have another look!
I changed bottom ball joints also and didn't noticed any adapters on the calipers so hopefully I've got it right this time!

right if you got the thinner ones they'll go regardless of what brakes its got
if there are no adaptors then you got the rocco 16v stuff, or its had mk2 golf bearing carriers grafted on.
