Convertible roof

Hi all, anybody on here have a link on to how to remove a convertible roof on a H reg. Gti. Thanks in advance.

Do you want to remove the roof and frame etc or just the roof skin?

Hi all & thanks for the info so far, i ve come to the taking the roof off fully and seen this rust under the rear tension cable lip, how do i clean and get this replaced for the new roof to go on.making sure it is strong & wont bend with tension. Thanks

Anybody have any ideas how to get this sorted, is this something that needs to be cut & welded or not ?

I'm no expert but I would carefully grind the surface rust off and see what's left and how strong the metal is, then if needed weld in new bit's of metal.
It's the corners which take most of the tension of the cable so consecrate on those areas.

I guess who ever replaced the roof last time just ignored the surface rust on the lip instead of treating/painting it before fitting a new roof…

Yes I would bless those areas as well, but the rear tray holds the cable and the vinyl when closing or opening.  

You will either have to find a donor in the breakers and weld in a new channel then paint to match.  

Chortle may have a source for new channel bits.
