The car doesn't seem to come on, there's a loud aggressive ticking like noise from the ignition…..?
Battery seems fine, don't think there's an issue withbthr alternator. I can't see fuel in the fuel filter yet (bare in mind there is an electric pump on there)
I did change the reverse light switch…..but it wasn't working, I had blown 3 fuses. And I realised the light in the boot was unhooked. Soon as I plugged it back in the reverse light was fine and no fuse were blown.
I should also add it doesn't crank….i can hear a loud clicking almost triggering noise behind the speedo.
It's a 1.8 carb
Any ideas chaps….?

Lollĺlĺ, lights were coming on (during the day) it was at night i realised everything was looking really dim, especially when I put the wipers on….they were moving in slow motion. Lol
Also, need to understand better the "churning" noise too!

Its easy to go looking for problems without eliminating the basics. There was a "cutting-out-when-running, leave-for-a-while-and-its-Ok,-repeat" thread a while back. Text book example of rotten fuel filler neck and water/rust/debris in tank.
Poster said all that was fine and went on a wild goose chase and then finally posted he'd sorted by fixing/replacing the rotten filler and cleaned tank out……

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Definitely lesson learned here! Next time (hopefully not) will look at battery, fuses then extend the investigation.
