Uj question and advice
Hi after quite a bit of a faff with fitting the purchased adapted corrado rack, that was so called fitted to a mk1 golf ( I really can't see how)
I'm nearly there. I've had to chop a hole in the lower bulkhead for the high pressure pipe and weld the gear linkage to the rack.
It came with a shortened UJ but where it clamps to the rack is too long, I'm wondering if there's a shorter piece I can use? I don't really want to make the hole bigger. I've looked at a polo one on eBay which looks similar design to the original mk1 uj. The mk1 is obviously a too smaller spline.

A good few years ago I fitted the tsr powered rack conversion, and I had the same issue, from memory I did make the hole bigger and used a mk2 golf rubber gaiter to cover it all. Cannot be any more specific.

Thanks I know about the mk2 rubber but I really don't want to go down that route, that really is the last resort.

Ok so now I've used a polo UJ, I've dismantled the roller bearings off the mk1 column and put them together. The polo uj is extendable which is really easy to work with but I'm still only a few mm from the edge so I think I'm going to have to trim the hole in the end anyway.
I'm looking also at the reservoir. I've got a mk2 one and bracket but I don't want to use that one as it's position is different and the shape is different. Instead I've got a T4 one and I'm going for the factory position next to the rad, now the mk2 bracket I'm going to chop and concoct something to fit where it should. Has anyone got a pic of the bracket? Maybe someone with a lhd can send a couple pictures? Please, cheers

I'll post a couple of pics at the weekend. Before I start on the RHD starlet rack conversion….

Been a few months but it's moved on a little and close to fitting back up. Rack been fitted, using some concoction of different bits I've got a smaller joint shaft. Used a LHD original rubber boot and it works perfectly. Hoses in process of being made. Had a few issues with power steering banjo connections.

Power steering fully functional and works perfectly!
Used a T4 reservoir, mk2 bracket chopped and welded to fit in what I think is the factory position
