Audi r32 engine in mk1 advice

Post

Hi  sorry  I need answer asap
I just bought a  engine for my mk1 golf and  tomorrow I pick it up. Is there any parts I need from the Audi whilst I'm there?
Fyi

Second question long shot … I might take all the parts to Spain  where my car is . So I  need to take it all in one go as very expensive for parts in the Canary islands. 2k just for engine.

What other parts will I need for the engine change in my vw mk1 1.3. I'm going to finish the project I started 30 + years now I have the bullet in my mouth

He said "engine has comes with loom but no ecu so listed separate". So do you think that comes with wiring I need ? Don't want him to really know I have no idea, otherwise never know what I will get lol. Sorry I have no idea what I'm doing and we are picking up engine on the way from north Wales to Brighton via a detour which no one knows yet lol. So about 10 hour trip with two kids and Grandpa who has a bruised bum and is on morphine to aid his backside. So stressed I am a little my brain seems that it doesn't work as it should in my older age. This was all a spare of the moment thing a holiday buy lol.

Thought I'd put the response in your thread rather than poor SuperTeds post.

You want to ask him whether that ecu was from that exact same engine you're purchasing.

Re the wiring loom there is an engine loom which appears still connected to the engine and then there is the other loom which comes off the ECU that you require.

You need the matching looms for the engine or else you will have a nightmare wiring it up as there are many variations.

The other loom is probably in the donor car as most scrappies won't remove it as takes too much time to remove. If they have it take tools as you will be dismantling quite a bit to remove it.

Great thanks I will ask him if he has the car still

Great thanks I will ask him if he has the car still….. No he has not got it😕🤬 so is it worth getting the ECU? Which is from the car. Are all the wiring looms the same ? So will be easier to find.
Or get another ECU with wiring loom which will then fit my engine?

I would ask for a refund and look out for everything as a package.

As I mentioned the looms need to match and there are different variations. I doubt you will find that section available online and then be able to match it not knowing which variant it is

I'm telling you this as I made this mistake and I managed to find the other part of the loom but only after 6 months  and it was on German eBay for a premium.

No engine harness and I have the engine. No return. Now for the hunt 🙁

What engine code is it? Did it come with the manual box did you say as the looms are different from dsg versions.

You have the harness attached to the engine right? Just the other part of the loom?

Screenshot_2024-07-18-08-44-07-015_com.ebay.mobile.jpg To be honest I have not even looked it's wrapped up as I live in Spain ( Canary islands)and normally only go back a few times a year  and didn't want to unwrap for protection. Maybe shipping, if I don't drive it myself as very expensive.
It's a manual 6 speed, he said? .  From a3 8p 3.2 v6 petrol model.

You need to find the engine code, it's etched near the crank pulley. Starts with 3 letters (engine code) and then the engine number. You will need to know the engine code to find the loom.

Mine is a BMJ. There are other engine codes that came in that model.
