Im guessing the ones on my tin top will be from original (ive owned it for 30years and never changed them 170k miles), they've had new boots and grease over the years but no more than that. Ive noticed a bit of noise that could be associated with the near side shaft so need to make a decision .
Any comments greatly appreciated, brands good and bad , places that can refurb , costs etc.
many thanks

On my 81 Diesel I had the same shafts for over 330K.
Yeah they were noisy, on slo speed turns, but never gave me any other issue.
The only thing to know is are yours 90 or 100mm. Ti a string around one of the CV mounts at the Transmission mark the string and measure it.
With the quality of the joints on rebuilds, I would only trust new.
If you decide to change the Hubs and wheel bearings make sure that you re-use your C-clips new ones have been known to be round-eared, and not flat. That causes the wheel bearing to bind when tightening them up and your shafts won't turn.

It will then open a new window in the sub forum of your choosing.

I've got a bit of play in the splines, like you I've stripped them down and greased them over the years, no noise but a little vibration, when I get around to doing it I'll splash out and fit the above.
