A pillar black plastic trim

Post

Hi guys. Got my cabby going in for a paint job next week and was wondering if anybody has removed the black plastic trim that runs down the A pillar gutter.
It seems as if its sticky taped on but am worried about snapping them trying to remove them.
Also can anyone tell me if these are available anywhere just in case this does happen and they have faded to Grey anyway.
Thanks all. 20170603_145708.jpg

You can sometimes get them from VW heritage or Germany but they are expensive for a little bit of plastic, £60 for 2! They was £30 from VW when you could get them a few years ago but now no longer available.

To remove them make sure they are warm, leave in the sun or heat a little with a heat gun and open the door and very carefully push around the A pillar from inside towards the windscreen and slowly work down the trim a little at a time then go back to top and and work down and push the trim off a little more.

I used some autoglym bumper and trim gel to make mine black again.

Ive lost a little bit from the top of mine and looking at different trim to fit, for about £3 or £4 you can a meter of this sort of thing to cover the edge which works out a lot cheaper.

Top man. Thanks for that info.. Will see if I can persuade the missus to get me some original jobbies but failing that the other site you have put up seems very useful.
I'll have a go at getting them off tomorrow.
Cheers.

I had my ones painted on my tin top along with bumpers and duck bill. Used a plastic paint that gave a grained finish and looks the dogs to be honest cost me an extra £70 for all plastics to be done while in for paint. See if your can do it for you as you have little risk if you are
Thinking of buying new ones anyway. May save a few quid even if It only lasts a couple of years the simply remove and fit new one.

Mine split and broke apart as soon as touched them.

Be very careful. Use a hairdryer not a heat gun as they are a bit more gentle.

Good Luck!

Might have a try of that. Seen one of the build threads on here and he had done his chrome bumpers in this stuff and they looked pretty sound.
Tried Work in Germany but they are out of stock any way..
Cheers.

Remember what happened to Mel Gibson in the rain with a hair dryer… :)

The few that I got out of a yard, were attached with a glue, and I carefully rolled them off from the outside in.

I  used black RTV to Glue them on my car.

Side note, if you use 800-1000-1500-2000 wet or dry paper, then a Clear coat Polish they look brandy new.

Here is a pic of my "B-Pillar" covers after that treatment.

Best part is you don't have to take them off to do this.
