Why do people think Apple and ipods are brill?
Listening to all the hype and the gushing praise from Apple devotees I'm utterly shocked how chuffin' poor the software is. And their hardware is 100% more expensive the PCs.
Mrs Early got an ipod for her birthday last year. I wasted 1 day of my live trying to get the software to work on her PC, turned out eventually she had an older itunes installed from a few years ago. Did it come up with a Windows type message "I have found an earlier version do you want to update/replace". Nope nothinm useful like that. Not a clue why it wouldn't work.
Now just trying get it to sync with the PC after copying up some new CDs. Wants me to register (again), non of the buttons respond and it appears to be downloading something from the store and comes up with an 'unknown error' when trying to update something or other.
Is it me or is Apple SW really cr

Not been near a Mac for 15+ years since the SEs I had to deal with at work. 100% M$ Windows since.

I can't speak for the iPod as I don't own one but the Apple computer range is far and away better than most PCs which might be why they're more expensive. Besides, they're a design tool and I'm a designer so that figures.

I guess it depends on what you use it for aswell, im much more of a media oriented person so a Mac is better for me as i dont do much gaming.
As to be expected i use iPods aswell (i have 3 to my name at the mo) but then again i do have 1500 tracks in my library.

this is my opinion user interface: rubbish hard to workout at first.
Battery life : good
finding tunes on your player : good
but I just wish that the uploading of tunes was made with the user in mind.
oh and they are too expensive as well..

Apples new notebook they bought out recently - the one they advertise coming out of an envelope because it's sooo slim. Looks great, but no CD/DVD drive, I think no USB? - it's just got nothing on it - it's the thinest in the world though - Woo hoo!

It's more of a designers toy tbh that acts as a supplement to your desktop computer. It's designed for presentations and working on the the move rather than a 'stand alone' PC.

The MacBook air has: 1 USB, 1 3.5mm headphone jack, and 1 micro DVI port which necessetates an adapter to plug in an external monitor.
no cd drive, but you can install stuff off another computers cd drive using wireless which is cool. they overheat way too much though

+1 for creative and decent headphones.
mac air was removed from sale 2-5 days after it went on sale as it kept over heating. it was fixed but still abit iffy. apple are known for trialing by selling instead of actually trialing it.
and for those that want the small laptop have a look for the asus eee 900. no cd/drive but has an sd memory card reader and 3 usb ports. oh and it's a solid state drive. and it runs linux (or windows if you must)

the techs dont know enough about macs to be able to offer proper telephone support (theyre based in london were in yorkshire).
the PC option was cheaper!
I personally would have preferred macs at work but can understand why they didnt!
as for ipods etc… i own a 5 yr old ipod shuffle (one that looks like a memory stick) and its fine. the mrs has an old nano and thats fine too. tbh we only use them thru the head unit in the car (saving having to put stuff on cd) and on the Creative base unit in the bedroom.

ipods suck. the mac air sucks. however the g4 rocks.
So on balance the Mac brand over the last 25 years is a winner then!?!?
Basically not everything a manufacturer produces is going to be perfect.
Let's be honest consumers are image lead a lot of the time, however we are not stupid and if a manufacturer was selling poorly designed products for that length of time they might have trouble staying in business. Instead, Apple are growing, have never been stronger and now own a huge share of the consumer market.
